Ed.D, MAMFT, LMFT, LAC, DTM

Most about pages begin with a list of credentials, training, experience, and certifications, designed to demonstrate a certain acuity for a particular area of specialization. And while that information is still relevant and continues to be listed elsewhere on the website (Education and Credentials), I know that prospective clients are often more interested in getting to know the person behind the education, training, and credentials.

To that end, you will find a bit of my story in the section below. I hope you find it encouraging and helpful.

My Story

My decision to work as a relationally-focused therapist began with my own desire to become everything I believe I can be through Christ. With over 30 years of lived experience in spiritual and relational recovery and therapy, I know change is possible, wounds heal, and therapy works because I have experienced it in my own life and the lives of the clients I have been privileged to come alongside.

I know what it is like to ask for help, to submit to the leadership of trusted counsel, and do the hard work of applying new ways of thinking and being to my life. It can be hard, but I know firsthand the benefits that develop from the willingness to learn, grow, and change. It is possible to live life as a happy, healthy, and whole individual, regardless of where you started or how difficult your life has been.

If you don’t remember anything else about what you read on this page, please remember this one fundamental element that drives everything I do and everything I believe in…

There is Hope! Happiness, Health, and Wellness are Possible!

No matter how far down the ladder you think you have fallen, real, transformative, restorative, and life-affirming change is possible for you.

As my website demonstrates, I have a special affinity for people who are struggling with relational issues. Which means, I also have an affinity for people who are struggling with emotional disconnections, loss, grief, traumatic memories, addictions, disordered eating, self-injury, infidelity, conflict, and stress, because relationships are precisely the context within which all of life happens. I love working with clients with these challenges because I have been there, and I know there is life on the other side of these types of issues. I can’t promise that the pathway up and out will be easy, but I can promise it will be worth it.

As your teacher, therapist, and spiritual mentor, my job is to come alongside and help you discover your unique road to relational health and wellness. It takes commitment and honesty, but if you are tired of being unhappy, discouraged, and disconnected, and are ready to actively pursue the changes you desire, it will be my joy and privilege to walk that road with you.

Those who work with me will tell you I am not a nod, smile, “tell me how that makes you feel” type of therapist, nor am I prone to offer you a quick-fix, Band-Aid type of therapy or training. In fact, I may, from time to time, challenge you about your deeply embedded narratives, help you regulate your tendency for emotional reactivity, and explore long-held resentments. And while I promise to always be truthful, I also promise to deliver that truth with love, compassion, and genuine concern for your growth, healing, and spiritual integrity.

I believe therapy to be a collaborative effort, and as such, I will actively work with you to achieve your desired outcomes and results. Once we have become acquainted and spent some time exploring your familial background and life experiences, we will jointly put together a plan, roll up our sleeves and get to work. Sometimes we will laugh and sometimes we will shed tears, but ultimately we will talk about what you need to talk about, no matter what the subject.

I tend to be fairly unshockable, so please don’t be afraid to bring whatever you need to discuss into your appointment.

Therapeutically, I am oriented in Bowen family systems (intergenerational) therapy. I tend to interact with clients much as a couch would, eliciting and supporting your emergence into a new way of being with yourself, with others, and with God.

Let’s get started!

If you have reached a place in your life where you are tired of the struggle and are ready to move into a more authentic, real, and satisfying relational and spiritual life, I can’t wait to hear from you. Let me know how I can help you achieve the life you always thought was possible.
