A few weeks ago, my husband and I had the opportunity to attend a concert by one of our favorite musical artists – us and about 20,000 of our closest friends. As we made our way to our seats, Paul and I had to resort to speaking directly into each other’s ears in order to hear what the other was saying. So much noise. So much confusion. So many voices.
Ours is a world filled with voices, opinions, and philosophies of life. Some voices speak Truth, and some extol oppositional doctrines and man-made fiction. In the din of that noise, it can be challenging to separate Truth from error. Sometimes, it can be hard to even hear the sound of your own voice. Hearing our authentic voice becomes complicated when we don’t have a clearly defined sense of ourselves, our beliefs, and our values.
I Believe! The Homemaker’s Creed
In the absence of a clearly defined set of life principles, moral compass, spiritual framework, and ethical standards, the voices of the noisy throng can often bring confusion and distress. However, when we clearly define who we are and what we believe and don’t believe, this confusion is diminished, and we can more clearly separate ourselves from the crowd.
Having a clearly delineated set of beliefs and values can help us feel more confident and at ease amidst the legions of ideologies and philosophical viewpoints. In fact, for years, the body of Christ intentionally taught the tenets of the Christian faith and challenged new believers to be able to give a defense of the faith to those who would question the authentic message of the Gospel.
Apologetics, or the reasoned arguments in justification of Christian beliefs, has taken somewhat of a back seat to other aspects of Christian life. But knowing our faith, knowing the Word, and knowing who we are in Christ is the foundation of a strong Christian position. When we can clearly articulate our values and our virtues, when we can clearly state the life principles by which we govern our life, and when we can outline our moral compass, our spiritual framework, and our ethical standards, we are less likely to become confused or get off course when challenged by social norms and cultural pressures that do not align with our faith.
The same could be said of our role as a homemaker. When we are confident of our calling, when we are sure of the parameters of our beliefs and dedicated to our cause, we are less likely to be unduly influenced by those who do not share our beliefs or find value in our commitment to home, family, faith, and parenting.
So here is my big idea. A Homemaker’s Creed -An outline or guide for helping homemakers more fully define the role of a homemaker, the mission of a homemaker, and the desired outcomes of choosing to embrace homemaking as a life vocation.
I hope you will find the creed helpful and will act as an incentive for you to consider creating a homemaker’s creed that will align with your unique situation. The creed serves as a unifying statement of faith, mission, and values for Christian homemakers, affirming their role as world influencers through their homes. Please feel free to share your comments below. I can’t wait to hear about how you will design your homemaker’s creed.

The Homemaker’s Creed
A Declaration of Faith, Mission, and Commitment
I believe that homemaking is a sacred calling, ordained by God as a means of nurturing life, cultivating love, and shaping the next generation.
I affirm that my role as a homemaker is a God-given ministry of service, stewardship, and influence. I will strive to model Christ’s love, grace, and practical wisdom in my home and community, knowing that my faithfulness in small things contributes to eternal purposes.
A Commitment to Spiritual and Personal Growth
I recognize that my ability to love, lead, teach, and influence my family, community, and the world is rooted in my spiritual and personal development. Therefore:
- I will pursue a deep and abiding relationship with Christ through whom I have been reconciled to God and by whose Spirit I am progressively being transformed into His image. I commit to becoming an astute student of God’s Word and Truth, sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit, and an obedient servant of His purposes and direction.
- I will seek wisdom and knowledge, grow in biblical knowledge and discernment, develop practical homemaking skills, and develop godly leadership to be a well-equipped steward of my home and the influence entrusted to me.
- I will cultivate a humble and teachable spirit, remaining open to correction, refinement, and growth as I seek to become more like Christ in all I say and do.
- I will prioritize self-discipline and diligence, rejecting idleness and apathy so that my life is a testimony of faithfulness, perseverance, and excellence.
- I will strive for relational, emotional, mental, and physical well-being, understanding that a well-ordered life and a healthy body strengthen my ability to serve, nurture, lead, teach, and influence.
A Commitment to Christ-Centered, Family-Focused Homemaking
I commit to the following principles:
- Christ-Centered Living – I will seek first the Kingdom of God, making prayer, God’s Word, and worship the foundation of my home.
- Biblical Womanhood – I will embrace my femininity as God designed, honoring my role as a wife, mother, and keeper of the home with joy and dignity.
- Faithful Stewardship – I will diligently care for my home and manage my time, resources, and responsibilities with wisdom and excellence.
- Love-Led Leadership – I will influence my family and community through a heart of servant leadership, teaching, and training with patience and love.
- Truth and Love—I will promote a balance of Truth and Love, speaking God’s definitive Truth while maintaining a loving and compassionate manner.
- Honoring My Marriage and Husband – I will respect God’s design for marriage by respecting, supporting, encouraging, and honoring my husband. I commit to building a marriage that highlights, models, and reflects Christ’s union with the bride of Christ.
- Discipleship in the Home – I will model a way of life worthy of emulation by my children. I will love, lead, launch, and release the children God has entrusted to my care. I will train my children in the truth, discipline, and grace of God so they may walk in His Light all the days of their lives and become people through whom the goodness of God will extend into future generations.
- Hospitality and Service – I will open my home to others and practice hospitality as a reflection of Christ’s love, grace, and generosity.
- Cultural Influence – I will commit myself to the defense of the faith, standing firm against man-made fictions, societal pressures, and destructive doctrines. I will live as a light in a culture that often devalues the home and family and strive to glorify God as an ambassador of Christ charged with the ministry of reconciliation.
- Legacy and Generational Impact – I will pass down wisdom, knowledge, faith, and God-centered traditions to future generations, understanding that my influence extends beyond my lifetime and has eternal implications.
With God’s help, I commit to an ever-expanding knowledge of God and God’s ways and the ability to provide a loving, safe, and Christ-centered haven for my family. I pledge to honor God in all of my choices, actions, and words and seek the advancement of His Kingdom in this life and the life to come.
“Unless The Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.” ~ Psalm 127
Heart peace and love to you all,
Teresa
