Rediscovering Why Marriage and Family Matter.

The world has become a busy and sometimes scary place. Workplace pressures, financial concerns, and demanding social standards can often lead to relational disconnection, mental fatigue, and even physical illness.

We have become a society of tired and emotionally drained people. If only there were a way to find some semblance of peace, safety, and relational stability.

Ironically, the very thing we seem to crave most is the one thing our society seems intent on destroying – Home and Family. What once provided a safe haven from the world’s pressures has become an archaic and, dare I even suggest, despised construct.

The once preferred vision of hearth and home has taken on a variety of negative connotations that characterize traditional marriage and family dynamics as oppressive, burdensome, and restrictive ideologies.

A New Paradigm of Stability, Security, and Relational Fulfillment

Recently, however, I have witnessed a surge of young couples, married and unmarried, questioning the contemporary two-income, childless or child-care-driven, more money mandate espoused by their counterparts.

Men are expressing a desire to be more fully male and to assume a leadership role in the family, while many young women are pushing back against the idea that raising children and managing a home are demeaning or less rewarding ways to structure their lives.

Having observed a generational legacy of divorce, remarriage, child custody disputes, and financial settlements, they seem eager to learn about the stability, security, and fulfillment that the traditional family unit provides.

An Encouraging Trend

It is an encouraging trend that I hope will continue to grow and expand. Perhaps it is time to reintroduce the advantages of the traditional family unit and place the emphasis back on some of life’s most significant and rewarding endeavors.

A Fresh Mental and Emotional Attitude

For several decades, the progressive movement towards exaggerated independence and familial disconnection has led our culture into a bit of a juggerknot. The freedom of expression, choice, and self-sufficiency promised has not materialized as anticipated. Instead, families have become relative hotbeds of unfulfilled expectations, resentments, and dreams of escapism. As new generations begin to question the social establishment and long for lifelong marital relationships of mutual respect, companionship, and teamwork, the tide seems to be shifting. As parents reevaluate the rewards of parenting healthy, well-adjusted children who can launch into the world as stable, stand-alone adults ready to meet the challenges of adult life, questions about parental duty and responsibilities begin to reconfigure and redefine as well.

To that end, Marriage and Family Matters have taken a more center-stage position. In response to that demand, the need for supportive encouragement for individuals, couples, and families longing to embrace biblical concepts about marriage, family, and parenting has also grown.

At NRHI, I hope you will find relatable content to help you navigate the pathway to a family structure that honors relational connection with God, yourself, and others.
